Holy Rosary Catholic School

GENERAL INFORMATION 2010-2011

FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL: We are starting school BEFORE Labor Day this year and changing our school day hours slightly (see below). This will allow us to end our year on June 10th (see enclosed school calendar). Our first day is Monday August 30th with grades 1-8 attending a half day from 8:15-11:30. Kindergarten orientation will be from 9:00-11:00 on August 30th. Full days start Tuesday, August 31st  for all students k-8. We will not have school on Friday, September 3-Monday, September 6 for the Labor Day weekend.

SCHOOL HOURS:  First bell will be at 8:10, with classes starting at 8:15 a.m.  Bussers  will not be penalized if their arrival time is later than 8:15.  We ask that students not arrive earlier than 7:50 a.m.  Dismissal will be at 3:15 p.m. (11:30 a.m. on half days).   The extra ten minutes will help us to meet the Diocese of Lansing / MNSAA requirement of 1098 hours of education.

PLEASE PLAN TO COME:  Parent Orientation night is Wednesday, September 1st at 6:30 P.M. We will start with a short, mandatory parent meeting in the Community room. You will then have an opportunity to visit your child (ren)’s classrooms.

DRESS CODE: There is a slight change to the dress code. Students must wear plain colored, collared shirts or blouses. If this goes well, we will see about having Fridays be our striped, plaid shirt days!

HOT LUNCH:  Our Hot Lunch program will run every day again this school year.  For planning purposes, students need to order lunch on Monday for the remainder of the week.  Cost for lunches will again be $2.50 per day.  This will include lunch, side items, and a drink.  A monthly menu will come home for planning purposes, and a weekly order form will come home each Friday.

LUNCH HELPERS:  Just as last year, we depend on our lunchroom helpers to supervise students while eating and also while they are out at recess.  If you are able to assist with this important job, please call and let us know!  (Lunchtime is from 11:45-12:40)

ABSENCES & TARDIES: Please be sure to call school before 10:00 a.m. and let us know that your student is absent. Teachers can send make-up assignments if it is requested by 10:00 a.m. Attendance at school is important—please try to schedule appointments, vacations, etc. on days we don’t have school.  We need your help and support!

VISIT OUR WEB SITE!  Come and see us at www.holyrosaryflint.com.  When you go there you will find the weekly newsletter and lunch menu, in addition to other important information.  You can also send us an e-mail anytime at  hrschool@comcast.net .

EMERGENCY INFORMATION will come home with your students very soon.  Please check the information we have for accuracy, sign the bottom, and return promptly to school. It is important that we have at least four phone numbers to call in case of emergency:  although we hope it is never necessary to call you for a serious emergency, it would be tragic if we were unable to reach you at that time.

FESTIVAL UPDATE:  Please be sure to get out and sell your raffle tickets!  If you did not receive tickets to sell, or need more tickets, they are available in the parish office.  If you haven’t already signed up to help at the festival, please plan to do so the evening of our Parent Orientation.  We need everyone’s support of this important fundraiser for our school and parish!

TUITION PAYMENTS:  When the fiscal ended on June 30th, we had some unpaid tuition from the 2009-2010 school year.  Our school budget (teacher salaries, etc.) is based on projected income from tuition, as well as our other fundraising efforts.  It is impossible for us to run this school without your financial cooperation.  I appreciate the sacrifices you make to send your children to Holy Rosary, and understand that money is very tight, but if you have not paid your July and/or August tuition payments, please do so as soon as possible.  There are many expenses associated with the opening of school, and we are dependent on your monthly tuition payments to keep us solvent.

If you have any other questions, please be sure to call and ask!

See you on Wednesday for Parent Orientation!

CHANGE FOR 2010-2011

VERY IMPORTANT!

PARKING LOT REGULATIONS:

It is important that we work cooperatively with our Daycare on the use of the parking lot to ensure the safety of our children! Please adhere to the following regulations:

·         During arrival drop off (7:45-8:45 A.M.) please enter off Richfield Rd.

·         Please stay to the right and drop off your child along the sidewalk. All students should exit cars on the passenger side.

·         After dropping off your child, please enter the driving lane and exit around the building via Lynne Avenue.

·         Please drive slowly around the building!

·         During drop off and pick up times, NO cars should be parked in the spots along the building. If it is necessary for you to come into the building, please park in the spots on the west side of our lot.

·         At the end of the school day, please enter via Lynne Avenue and park in the middle rows to wait for your child. A school official will let the lead car know when it is safe to exit the parking lot. (NO CHANGE- SAME AS USUAL)

Please inform anyone who will be transporting your child to or from school during the above times of these procedures.

Your cooperation is imperative for the safety of our staff and your children!

We realize that your time is precious, but our children are much more precious than any amount of time!
